A vast majority of Americans (70%) now believe that smoking marijuana is a “morally acceptable” behavior, according to a new Gallup poll. This is up from 65% in last year’s poll.
“At least 7 in 10 U.S. adults say birth control, drinking alcohol, getting a divorce, sex between an unmarried man and woman, gambling, and smoking marijuana are acceptable moral behaviors,” Gallup said.
In December 2019, a poll by NPR/PBS and the Marist Institute for Public Opinion found that 62% of Americans think that legalizing cannabis nationally is a “good idea.”
NORML’s political director stated that, “Public opinion continues to drastically evolve in favor of marijuana’s legal and cultural status and it is time that the federal laws evolve as well.”
