Medical Marijuana Is Now Free in Sicily

Sicily Marijuana

Sicily, one of Italy’s 20 regions, will be picking up the tab for the cost of medical marijuana for locals. The region’s health chief, Ruggero Razza, recently signed a decree establishing the new law. Those with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and chronic pain will no longer have to pay for their medical marijuana prescriptions.

Patients in Italy must have a prescription from their doctor to obtain medical marijuana, The Local Italy reported. Only licensed pharmacies are permitted to dispense the medicine.

Possessing marijuana without a prescription isn’t a crime in Italy, but fines and suspensions of passports and/or driver’s licenses are still possible.
